What is it sweetened with?

Sugar-free does not mean unsweetened. See which EU-approved sweeteners the products use – and which do without any.

Intense sweeteners

Intense sweeteners are many times sweeter than sugar and provide practically no calories. They are mostly used in drinks.

Sugar replacers (polyols)

Polyols such as erythritol or xylitol add bulk and sweetness, e.g. in chocolate, chewing gum and biscuits. Above 10 % the pack must say “excessive consumption may produce laxative effects”.
